Ajax did their damage early and never let their opponents close.

They had 14 points to their name by the time the Andy Bay Falcons were able to get on the board.

That margin grew steadily, as Ajax claimed an 87-52 win in women’s club basketball on Tuesday night.

It ensures Ajax head into the two-week break for university holidays as the only team to have won on-court, after Varsity defaulted to the South Pac Magic in the night’s other game.

Samara Gallaher was at her destructive best for Ajax.

The former Tall Fern had 21 points, hitting five three-pointers and contributing seven points in that initial 14-0 run.

Jane Hendry added 13, while Natalie Ivamy had 10 for Ajax.

Former Gold Rush star and Silver Ferns shooter Jodi Brown took the court with daughters Kiara and Aria — Jodi posted four points, while Kiara and Aria had nine each.

For the Falcons, who were notably missing star duo Alexa Duff and Elise Carline, Laura Ring did her best to keep her team going with 24 points.

Madi Loudon added 13, and it was her that provided the Falcons’ early thrust.

It was not that the Falcons were not getting open shots early, they just were not making them.

Ajax were playing at a noticeably higher intensity, and took full advantage.

Gallaher hit a triple, a layup and a mid-range jump shot, while Danielle Frost added two baskets of her own to help Ajax out to their early lead.

Loudon finished at the hoop to finally get the Falcons going, nearly seven minutes into the game, before she came back down and hit a triple.

But for all the scoring the Falcons managed, Ajax were able to match them, never letting them go on a run to get back into the game.

Ajax extended its lead to 27-10 at quarter-time, which became 49-26 at halftime.

The third quarter remained relatively even, Ajax taking a 62-39 lead heading into the final break.

While the Falcons maintained that margin most of the fourth quarter, they fell off late, as Ajax finished on a 12-0 run.
