Three national records fell at the Caledonian Ground in the weekend’s Otago championships.

Paralympic thrower Caitlin Dore set standards in both the F37 shot put and javelin, while Alison Newall set a record in the 50-plus masters women’s pole vault.

Dore (Taieri) had throws of 9m and 23.32m in the shot put and javelin respectively, breaking her own records.

The 58-year-old Newall (Caversham) jumped 2.05m to break her grade’s masters pole vault record.

Schuyler Orr and Nathan MacDonell had a good duel in the senior men’s 100m and 200m.

Orr (North Otago) took the 100m in 11.52sec, before MacDonell (Hill City-University) ran 23.24sec in the 200m, edging Orr by 0.01sec.

In the women’s races, Hill City-University’s Fiona Centers claimed the double in 13.21sec and 25.40sec.

Sam Gouverneur won both the under-20 and senior 400m, with a fastest time of 49.81.

One-day registration athlete Sophie Napper was the fastest women in the 400m, having also come  second in the 100m and 200m.

Liam Turner (Winton) and Jennifer Hodgson (Caversham) claimed the men’s and women’s 800m titles.

Hill City-University’s Josh Hou broke the Otago men’s 14 record over the distance in 1min 58.56sec.

Nathan Hill (Leith) secured both the 1500m and 3000m senior men’s titles, while Bella Bloomfield (Hill City-University) did the same in the women’s.

Sammy Burke (Aspiring), however, ran the fastest women’s 3000m time of10min 30.61sec to win the under-20 race.

Hill City-University’s Cameron Moffitt impressed in the 300m hurdles, setting an Otago men’s 14 record of 40.17sec.

In the field it was another one-day registration to the fore in Kieran Fowler.

He claimed both the senior men’s shot put and discus titles, while Anton Schroeder (Hill City-University) threw 57.48m to take first in the men’s javelin.

Todd Bates put in a strong performance in the hammer throw, reaching 50.69m to crack 50m for the first time this season.

Fiordland’s Dyani Shepherd-Oates and Taieri’s Zharna Beattie both impressed in the women’s discus.

Beattie won  the under-18 and under-20 events, edging Shepherd-Oates in the under-20 competition.

However, Shepherd-Oates threw 34.53m to take first in the senior competition.

In the long jump, Hill City-University’s Cameron Miller won the senior men’s competition with 6.33m.

Taieri’s Emma Mckay had the best women’s jump of the day, despite being in the under-18 competition.

She broke the Otago girls 14 record with 5.26m.
