Dunedin athletes Anna Grimaldi and Holly Robinson have produced double silver success on the world stage.
Grimaldi won silver in the T47 long jump at the world para athletics championships in Paris last night, while Robinson secured silver in the F46 shot put on Saturday.
Grimaldi jumped 5.96cm to win silver, setting a New Zealand record and recording a personal best leap.
She threw her arms in the air with delight after the fifth-round jump, having added 5cm to her previous record.
Reigning world champion Kiara Rodriguez, of Ecuador, stunned the competition to win gold with 6.23m.
She broke the world record set in 2013 by 22cm and added a massive 32cm to her personal best.
America’s Taleah Williams won bronze with 5.65m.
Grimaldi’s silver medal adds to the bronze she won in the 100m last week.
Robinson rebounded from her javelin fourth place to claim silver on Saturday.
She unleashed an Oceania record throw of 11.59m to finish second behind American Noelle Malkamaki, who set three world records, topped by a best of 13.32m.
Shot put was recently reintroduced to the programme, giving Robinson a fresh focus.
"It feels cool. I wasn’t expecting silver — I thought bronze would have been the tussle — but I’m super stoked and over the moon with silver.
"I had some clear goals with shot, and I knew what I needed to do to get the distances that I wanted. I’m just glad it all worked out on the day.
"I was pretty happy with how I threw. We had a solid field, and anyone could have taken those second and third spots, so I’m really happy I got the distance.
"It seems weird that I will be going into the Paralympics as the world shot silver medallist and fourth in javelin, so it is kind of backwards for me.
"But I’m really excited to see what the next year holds. It would be cool to compete in two events and medal in two events at the Paris Paralympics."
