She competed in the sprint distance event which consisted of a 750m swim or 4km kayak, a 20km bike ride and a 5km run around the lakeside walking track.
"I've never done a triathlon in my life ... I'm really pleased with how it went.''
She described it as a brilliant day out, despite having a niggling pain in her hip while completing the running section.
The sprint event was won by Saxon Morgan (16), of Christchurch, from Steven Morrison, of Cromwell and Reuben Thompson (16), of Queenstown. The event starts and finishes at Lake Hayes showground, just outside Queenstown.
