Athletics: Fourth race to be added to next Riverrun Trail Series

The three-race Riverrun Trail Series wrapped up in Wanaka on Saturday with a 14km running race from Glendhu Bay to Roys Bay on the Millennium Track.

The final event attracted about 100 competitors, mostly from the Upper Clutha and Queenstown Lakes area.

The inaugural winners of the John Pawson Memorial Trophies for most consistent results across the series were Mike Coombe and Emma Seward, both of Wanaka.

Organiser Victoria Murray-Orr said the popularity of the series was such that a fourth race, using the Outlet Track, would be added to the next series, which begins on October 1 and ends on May 19 next year.

The series raised $500 for the Upper Clutha Tracks Trust, an organisation Mr Pawson was closely involved with before his death in a climbing accident in 1998.

The Riverrun Trail Series takes place on tracks the trust has helped create, in conjunction with the Department of Conservation, local authorities and other community organisations.
