A financial and insurance adviser has been recognised as the best in the country after years of hard work in the Southland community.

Sam Corcoran, who works for Corcoran Smith Financial, was named the New Zealand Regional Insurance Advisor of the Year for 2025 at the Kiwi Advisor Network awards.

Picked out from the best of the best in financial advice and insurance sales, Mr Corcoran stood out, due to his commitment to clients, excellent and diligent work, and outstanding contributions to the industry.

In a statement, Mr Corcoran said he was grateful for the award and the recognition of his work.

"I am deeply honoured to receive this award.

"It’s awesome to be noticed, especially since we are all the way down in Southland," he said.

Mr Corcoran said he could not take all the credit, tipping his hat to business partner Torrone Smith and their customer base.

"I wouldn’t have this award without the support of Torrone, my business partner, and the support of our loyal clients in Southland.

"Our success goes hand in hand with the success of our region.

"Insurance is never an easy topic but I pride myself on making it accessible, understandable and right for all of my clients."

Mortgage adviser for Corcoran Smith Financial, Torrone Smith said the duo have been in business for a while, albeit doing different jobs.

"We started nearly five years ago.

"I work with first home buyers, Sam works in protecting lots of working professionals and families."

Mr Smith said where his business partner stands out is how he makes insurance work for clients.

"I think when people think of insurance they think ugh, that’s boring, it’s expensive, I won’t ever use it.

"But what sets Sam apart is he’s really able to focus those insurances based on needs, and makes it very transparent how it will protect them," he said.
