A good game of rugby will be played for a great cause this Saturday to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House.

The game will be played at the Gore A&P Showgrounds at 2pm, with free entry. Donations will be gathered during the game.

Organiser Tain Laing said he organised the event to help give back to Ronald McDonald House, after the organisation helped Angus Grant, 11, and his family.

‘‘We were having a few beers after rugby, and some of the older guys suggested we play and the funds go to Angus.

‘‘I actually work for his family, and that’s how it came about,’’ he said.

Angus was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year, and stayed at the Ronald McDonald House during his treatment.

Mr Laing said the community had already raised thousands of dollars for the charity, but was still pouring on the support.

‘‘It’s massive, an amazing response from the community.

‘‘We didn’t ask for donations, just put it out there, and got an unbelievable response.’’

Mr Laing said he was expecting a massive turnout.

‘‘We’re looking at about roughly five to six hundred people,’’ he said.

The game will feature local rugby players, as well as prominent players from the Highlanders, Southland Stags, and even ex-All Blacks.

At halftime, Angus will be playing a game with a few of his friends, and there will also be an ‘‘undie’’ run.

Afterwards, there will be refreshments and a raffle held at the Gore Town & Country Club across the road, with a DJ later on in the night.

Mr Laing said everyone was welcome to come to help support the charity.

‘‘Bring full wallets, gold coins, a mate, and have a beer and a burger.

‘‘It’ll be a great time.’’
