The Tuatapere Golf Club will celebrate its century during Waitangi Weekend next year.

One hundred and fifty visitors are expected to attend the event, which heralds "the best little nine hole in Southland".

Tuatapere Golf Club centenary committee spokeswoman Debbie Fowle said the three-day celebration would tee off on February 6 with the annual Waitangi Day Tournament, followed by a meet and greet at the clubhouse the next day.

More golf will be played with platters available to graze on and guests can drive around the course on the carts or "simply come and mingle".

The 75th year was celebrated in 2000, and many changes have been made since the turn of the millennium, she said.

"We are giving the outside of the building a spruce-up, also the grounds.

"We would like to thank all our grounds staff who are mostly volunteers for keeping our course looking so amazing and all our other members who keep the club running seamlessly."

There will be a nine-hole Stableford competition at 1pm on the Saturday and guests can enjoy refreshments around the course while the game is played.

Prizegiving would follow later that afternoon then the weekend would end with the gala dinner held at Waiau Area School, she said.

"We would like to acknowledge our existing life members Doug Erskine and Wendy Knowler," Ms Fowle said.
