A drug dealer who continued selling while on bail and then home detention has been sentenced to more than two years in prison.
He was then sentenced to 10 months’ home detention for those charges in February, but his trade in illegal substances did not stop there.
When police searched his home in May, they discovered a small amount of cannabis (9.7g) and $450 cash.
Examination of the defendant’s cellphone showed regular messages from buyers since the beginning of December, as well as notes, videos and 74 photos of cannabis head — taken just days before the seizure.
From the information on the phone, police calculated that 458g of cannabis, worth over $8100, was sold, leading to the 24 representative charges of possession for supply.
The defendant’s counsel, Keith Owen, said he understood his client’s offending was to be considered aggravated, given he was on home detention at the time, and a sentence of imprisonment was inevitable.
"Certainly, now, faced with the consequences, he regrets what he has done," Mr Owen said.
He asked Judge Duncan Harvey not to impose a "crushing" sentence, while referencing his client’s age.
During sentencing, Judge Harvey stated plainly: "You are a drug dealer." He said though he took no pleasure in sending people to prison, it was unavoidable.
Kidd was sentenced to two years, three months, and Judge Harvey ordered the forfeiture of cash and utensils.
