Cardrona's opening day on Friday, June 26 dawned clear and sunny, enticing those living below - covered by the inversion layer of cloud - up for some skiing or riding.

Wanaka-based Otago Daily Times journalist Catherine Pattison packed her camera and skis then ventured out of the gloom and into the glory of a day on the slopes.
