Fox Glacier Highway (SH6) is closed between Fox Glacier and Franz Josef following a serious crash.
A police spokesperson said the single vehicle crash was reported at about 2.15pm.
"Initial indications are that there are serious injuries," the spokesperson said.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
