A water pressure issue in Wanaka's Heaton Park discovered during the Mt Alpha fire earlier this month, is believed to have been resolved.
It was reported that during the fire, rural firefighters were unable to use the hydrant closest to the hillside to fill up one of their tankers, due to low water pressure.
After labelling the events ``unexpected and concerning'', Queenstown Lakes District Council media spokesman Sam White yesterday confirmed an inspection into the supply had taken place and the issue remedied.
``Council contractors made the inspection on 11 January. They discovered and opened one partially closed valve about 10m upstream of the hydrant. This was the most likely cause of the low pressure observed by the local resident and Fire Emergency New Zealand during the fire. We suspect that it was installed partially closed. The hydrant had normal pressure after this fix and hence we believe the issue is resolved.''
Heaton Park is a relatively new subdivision, having been developed in the mid-2000s.
Water supply and pressure has been an issue raised by residents to the council for a number of years.
