One of Wanaka's main thoroughfares closed due to a mudslip from a construction site since Thursday night could be re-opened today.

Queenstown Lakes District council issued a statement this morning in which they said they have spoken with the developers of the Marina Terrace Apartments on Lakeside Road Developers regarding removal of the landslide on Lakeside Road.

"At present their intent is to begin removal of the slip from the road today subject to a review of dewatering the site over the weekend."

"We will provide an update later this morning, once that review has been completed and the developers ( Multiplied Investment Partners) have advised the next steps."

On Friday Multiplied Investment Partners spokesman Matt Tuck confirmed the landslip occurred because the site became destablised as a result of removing vegetation and waterlogged soil.

The slow moving landslide began on Thursday night and continued until 3am the next morning, moving at about a metre an hour.
It cross the road and stopped just short of tumbling into Lake Wanaka.

Multiplied Investment Partners plan to build 44 apartments in three stages on the site.
