Speed limit changes to take effect

Drivers have been asked to be alert following the introduction of various changes to speed limits around the Queenstown Lakes district, which will take effect from Monday.

The speed limit within the Arrowtown urban boundary will drop from 50kmh to 40kmh.

In Wanaka the speed limit in Aubrey Rd from the intersection with Anderson Rd to the Albert Town roundabout will decrease from 70kmh to 60kmh.

In Gorge Rd from Coronet Peak junction to Watties Track junction the speed limit will drop from 70kmh to 50kmh.

In Cardrona Valley Rd from the township to the distillery, the speed limit will drop from 100kmh to 80kmh and in Peninsula Rd, Kelvin Heights, it will drop from 70kmh to 50kmh.

Council general manager property and infrastructure Peter Hansby said that the new speed limits were the first to be introduced following the adoption of a revised speed limits bylaw in August last year.

"Signage will be going up over the next week, so it should be quite obvious to people who use those roads regularly where a change will be taking place," Mr Hansby said.

Further consultation on a number of other speed limit changes, including in Ballantyne Rd, Beacon Point Rd, Mt Aspiring Rd, Cemetery Rd, Arrowtown town centre and urban areas of Wanaka, is planned for later this month.
