Relaunch for popular tracks app in time for peak season

Outdoor enthusiasts are being wished an "appy" new year by Lake Wanaka Tourism and the Mountain Safety Council.

Lake Wanaka Tourism last week launched a refreshed version of the popular Wanaka Tracks App, detailing tracks and attractions in the wider Wanaka region and helping visitors decide which cycle or walking track is best for them.

The Mountain Safety Council’s app, Plan My Walk, also helps walkers make similar decisions, but its track database covers the entire country.

The Wanaka Tracks App has already helped more than 500,000 visitors find answers to the most frequently asked questions at the Wanaka iSite.

The Mountain Safety Council’s chief executive Mike Daisley said all signs pointed to another busy tramping season this summer.

All outdoor enthusiasts, whether on short walks, day hikes or overnight tramps, should plan and prepare.

"One of the most critical things to do is actually pick a trip that suits your group’s abilities. That means the difficulty, duration and comfort levels," he said.
