Wānaka's chamber of commerce is so keen to help drive business, it took "Mr Monopoly" and Queenstown Lakes District Mayor Glyn Lewers for a spin around town on Wednesday.

The business chamber then publicly launched the new Hasbro-licensed Wānaka Monopoly game at the lakefront.

Chamber general manager Glenn Peat said the launch was important for Wānaka, after a couple of rough years recovering from Covid.

"Businesses [were] really struggling so it was an opportunity for us at the Wānaka business chamber to showcase our local business community, put them at the forefront and really push out some lifetime branding opportunities for them because for as long as one of these boards lives its life, their name is on that board," Mr Peat said.

Mr Peat said every Upper Clutha household and accommodation business should have a board, which were now for sale in local shops.

Players can buy properties in Wānaka, Hawea, Cardrona, Glendhu, Luggate, and Makarora.

Mr Peat said profits would be reinvested into the chamber, with donations from proceeds going to local charity Food for Love.
