It’s time for a chilly dip in the lake

THE 24TH ANNUAL WĀNAKA MIDWINTER SKI AND SWIM

WHERE: Roys Bay lakefront, Ardmore St, Wānaka

WHEN: Saturday, July 22, 1pm.

ABOUT: Waterski or swim in fancy dress and help raise funds for Wānaka St John. Warm up after your dip with a spa, food and hot drinks. Organised by Wānaka locals Gary Tweedie and Graeme Vallance. All welcome, turn up with a koha/donation.

NZ MOUNTAIN FILM AND BOOK FESTIVAL

WHERE: Wānaka, Queenstown Venues

WHEN: June 21-28; online July 1-31

ABOUT: The NZ Mountain Film and Book Festival is a member of the International Alliance of Mountain Film and welcomes entries from around the globe and New Zealand. The Grand Prize winner takes home $2500. It is New Zealand’s only adventure filmmakers’ competition, supports Kiwi creatives and adventurers and raises funds for charity. The full programme will be announced and tickets will be on sale on May 21.

FRAME AND FOSTER LAUNCH

Where: Dunlop Builders, 13 Venture Cres, Wānaka

WHEN: June 26, 5pm-6.30pm

ABOUT: Wao Better Building Group launches Frame and Foster, a series of events about creating sustainable and resilient building practices. The first session features sustainable business network general manager James Griffin, followed by a Q&A session with Mitre 10 Wānaka trade general manager Jason Watkins. Refreshments available.

ONE-ACT PLAYS

WHAT: "Heart Affairs" — a series of scenes and one-act plays exploring the fragility and strength of the human heart. Presented by senior Mount Aspiring College pupils.

WHERE: Mount Aspiring College Black Box Theatre

WHEN: June 26-27, 7pm

ABOUT: These performances, arranged with Playmarket, help pupils tackle challenging roles and enhance their acting range. Featuring works by prolific New Zealand playwrights, the scenes will evoke a range of emotions. Suitable for ages 15+.

The plays include Heavenly Bodies by Kerry Lynch, Good Night-The End by Jo Randerson, Hotel by Thomas Sainsbury, The Rosenberg Sisters by Michelanne Forster and Tiggy Tiggy Touch Wood by Renée.

Tickets at the door: Adults $10, students $5. Suitable for ages 15+

THE NZ HIGHWAYMEN

Where: Lake Wānaka Centre

WHEN: Saturday, June 29, 7pm

ABOUT: Kiwi music identities Dennis Marsh, Brendon Dugan, Gray Bartlett and Frankie Stevens will be in Wānaka.
