Lakefront land with shade on it was premium real estate in Wānaka yesterday and the squeeze on shade has been forecast to continue until the end of the week.

Riley Cutler (5), of Dunedin, enjoyed the sun, relaxing on a paddleboard at Roys Bay.

By 3pm yesterday, the temperature had reached 26degC and Roys Bay was full of paddleboarders.

Sunscreen-covered landlubbers were lounging under every tree from Eely Point to the Wānaka Tree and the boat launches were busy.

The MetService says today will be a similarly great day to fast dry your togs and towels after a refreshing dip.

The fabulous week for ripening tomatoes could continue right through until January 2, with temperatures soaring into the 30s later this week.
