About 100 people gathered at the Lake Hawea camping ground jetty yesterday to participate in or watch the third annual Lake Hawea polar plunge.

Staff from Kanuka Corner Early Childhood Centre decided to represent all the colours of the rainbow.

Taking the plunge are (from left): Anna Edkins, Heather McKenna, Kiara Sabine, Helen McKie, Francesca Buckley (submerged), Sam Macdonald, and Hoki de Goldi.

Organisers Kaz Smith and Jess Clark said the water was "character building".

The community event was organised to bring people together to socialise and enjoy a Sunday lunch, provided by volunteers from the Lake Hawea Community Centre and Mr Whippy.
