"Disrespectful" vandals who ripped up sections of playing fields at two Palmerston schools have been taken to task.
Community Constable Bruce Dow, of Oamaru, said a four-wheel-drive vehicle was driven over sports fields at Palmerston Primary School and East Otago High School. The incident, early on Sunday morning, ended when the vehicle hit a parked car.
Palmerston Primary School principal Gareth Taylor said although the damage would not put the school out of pocket, the incident was "very annoying" and "just really disrespectful".
"It [the damage] will grow out, but it doesn't send a good message out to the kids that a local person doesn't have the same respect for the school that they have."
