A suggestion South Island local authorities band together to share internal rating system software has not gained any "traction", Otago Regional Council chief executive Graeme Martin says.
The regional council is looking at options to replace its rating system software as it had been advised it would not be developed any further and support would be removed in two years.
Council corporate services director Wayne Scott said the council could not continue to run the rating system software without support.
The council had been using the software for many years and its "functionality could also be better".
He could not comment on how much replacing it would cost, only that it was a "reasonable" amount.
It was also reviewing its financial system software in conjunction with the rating system replacement as it was "time for a change", he said.
Mr Martin said at a meeting of South Island local authority representatives about the issue of shared services earlier this year, Otago had raised the issue of a shared rating system.
He believed it could be done and commercially contracted.
However, the concept got "no traction", he said.
