An oil spill estimated to be hundreds of litres in volume blocked traffic to a main Invercargill road yesterday.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fenz) was called to the spill by the Elles Rd and Tweed St roundabout at 9.35am, a spokeswoman said.
The spill, which also extended down Elles Rd, was estimated to amount to a couple of hundred litres.
"It’s quite a decent spillage."
One fire crew attended and worked with police to partially close the roundabout so the area could be cleaned.
The cause of the spill was unknown.
A police spokesperson yesterday said police were made aware of the spill about 9.40am, and there had been issues affecting traffic at the roundabout.
The spill appeared to have come from a vehicle travelling along the road over some distance.
"Nobody seems to have seen anything in terms of where the spill came from."
