Shaun Orchard (23) and Hendrix Kamo (28) were reportedly swept from the rocks late on Sunday, January 27. Detective Sergeant Dave Kennelly, SAR, Invercargill police, said yesterday 80 people conducted a coast line search between Waipapa Point and Waikawa Harbour on Thursday.
"Unfortunately the search was not successful and the decision has been made to withdraw the formal search teams."
If new information surfaced police would follow up but Search and Rescue teams had been stood down as of yesterday.
He said police were continuing to provide support to the missing men’s families. The matter will now be referred to the coroner.
Slope Point, the southernmost point of the South Island and notorious for its rugged coastline and rough seas, lies south of Waikawa and Haldane, near the southwestern edge of the Catlins, 71km east of Invercargill.
