Invercargill horse trainer Steve Lock is a relieved man after he, fellow motorists and his horses walked away from a car accident near Winton on Tuesday.
Mr Lock’s horse truck which was loaded with five horses collided with a car on State Highway 96, near the intersection of Winton-Wreys Bush Highway and Otautau-Wreys Bush Rd, late on Tuesday afternoon.
The occupants of the car and horse truck, which included Mr Lock, were uninjured in the accident, he said.
Mr Lock’s horse transporter rolled after the impact with the car and was left lying on its side with five horses trapped inside.
After emergency services arrived on the scene, the horses were eventually able to be freed from the vehicle and emerged relatively unscathed, Mr Lock said.
For all of the passengers and horses to be able to walk away from what could have a horrific incident was a win-win situation, Mr Lock said.
‘’We are all good - we all survived nicely, I think the truck is written off, but it is only a truck,’’ he said.
