An earthquake near Milford Sound has rattled the lower South Island this morning.
According to Geonet, the 4.7 magnitude quake struck 15km north of Milford Sound at 10.07am.
It was 15km deep.
It was felt in Queenstown and around the lower South Island, including Dunedin.
Geonet initially said the shaking from the quake was strong, but later downgraded its assessment to moderate.
