Mrs Calvert was among 70 elderly people at a community lunch promoted by Age Concern.
She was delighted with the gathering, which included a choir from Otatara Pre-school who sang traditional Christmas songs.
She said it was cheering to have them around.
"I came here every year for ... I can’t remember. But having those kids singing to us is delightful. They bring to us the Christmas spirit."
