Fire at Southland industrial facility contained

A building fire at an industrial facility north of Invercargill has been contained.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said several reports were made of a building being well ablaze on the Branxholme-Makarewa Rd.

Crews from Wallacetown, Invercargill and Winton, along with tankers from Otautau and Hedgehope were on the scene.

An ambulance also attended but all persons were accounted for.

The spokesman said the fire was considered contained about 11.15am, and some appliances were being stood down.

The building was an industrial premises, about 15m by 30m in size, he said.

It was unclear what caused the fire or what had caught ablaze, and a fire investigator was at the scene.

The incident had not been tagged as suspicious, the spokesman said.

A local said there are two buildings on site, a used car yard and a stock-feed storage facility but he was not sure which one was on fire.
