Two people received minor injuries in a collision outside an Invercargill optometrists this morning.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokeswoman said crews from Kingswell and Invercargill Stations were called to reports of a car hitting a building on Kelvin St about 11.45am today.

When crews arrived they discovered two cars had collided outside Southland Eyecare, but it was not clear that the building had been hit.

A witness in the scene, who asked not to be named, said the crash happened when a car was leaving the Westpac car park, which is next to the eye clinic.

''He sort of slowed down a bit, thought that nothing was coming and just put the foot down to go out and sort of hit the other car that spun around.''

He said the crash left staff at the clinic and people around shaken.

No people were trapped and both patients were out and in the hands of St John staff, the spokeswoman said.

A police spokesman said two people had minor injuries.
