There was fun and laughter in Invercargill on Saturday as the Southland Multicultural Council celebrated Colombian Independence Day.

The event at Southern Institute of Technology’s Hansen Hall was a celebration of Colombian culture. Many people filled the room decorated in Colombian colours yellow, blue and red.

Edilia Toloza (pictured, left) and her husband Albeiro Ortiz, have been in Invercargill for two years with their family. She was originally from Meta, in Colombia.

She said Independence Day was usually marked with a big celebration.

Jeronimo Hernandez Rincon (4, above) also attended with his family and spent his time playing with balloons and having fun.
