Mataura Christian Church pastor Chris DuBose is keen to promote a day when a team from the church will help residents with household and garden chores free of charge, as well as promoting an upcoming children's fun day.
The Mataura Christian Church is offering practical help to the community. A church team will carry out jobs around the house or spring clean the garden all free of charge for a day later this month.

Mataura Christian Church pastor Chris DuBose said a team from the First Christian Church, in Huntington Beach, California would be in the town for a week starting November 11 and would join with church members in giving a helping hand to those in need on November 13, from 9am to noon and 1pm to 4pm.

"We want to serve you, whether it is gardening, cleaning your toilet, or small fix-it jobs around your house," Mr DuBose said.

"There are absolutely no strings attached. Nothing in life is free you say - we are a group of Christ-followers who believe in simple acts of grace," he said.

"We care about people in our community and want to serve you - that's it, it is that simple - just compassionate Christ-followers who want to put their faith in action," he said.

Mr DuBose said 10 people would be in the team from Huntington Beach and they would be willing and eager to help people in the town.

• The church is also hosting a Kid's Day on November 14 from 9am to 1pm at the Mataura Christian Church.

Mr DuBose said the fun day would consist of singing, games, crafts, stories and learning about Jesus.

A barbecue would be held at noon and families of the children attending would be invited, he said.
