Charged with sexual assault

A man has appeared in the Invercargill District Court charged with sexually assaulting a female in Te Anau last week.

The 68-year-old man appeared in a blue prison suit before Judge John Brandts-Giesen yesterday, charged with sexual violation on January 26.

Duty lawyer David Slater requested interim name suppression for the man, given the nature of the charge.

Judge Brandts-Giesen granted the suppression and remanded the man in custody to appear on February 21 with leave to apply for bail before that date.
