Direct flights between Invercargill and Auckland will begin in August.
Air New Zealand will commence the first ever direct service between the two cities on August 25 with the first flight between arriving in Invercargill from Auckland. The return flight will depart for Auckland the next day on August 26.
The announcement was made this morning by Invercargill Airport General Manager Nigel Finnerty who said the new route opens a new and exciting chapter of aviation and travel into and out of Invercargill.
“The airport and our community partners, along with Air New Zealand, have worked extremely hard to make this flight a reality.”
Mr Finnerty said Invercargill is the first non-international regional airport to have a regular passenger A320 jet service in New Zealand.
Tickets for the route went on sale this morning, with Air New Zealand’s Grabaseat promotion releasing 500 seats in each direction of travel for $59 one way.
