One person has been flown to hospital and several others have also been injured in a two-vehicle crash near Lumsden in Southland.
Emergency services were called to the scene about 5.30pm today.
A police spokesman said eight people were involved in the collision, which occurred at the intersection of the Five Rivers-Lumsden Highway (State Highway 6) and Mossburn Fiver Rivers Road.
A St John spokesman said one patient suffered serious injuries and was flown to Southland Hospital in Invecargill.
He said several other patients had moderate to minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
A Fire and Emergency spokesman said there were no reports of anyone having been trapped in the vehicles.
Crews from Mossburn and Lumsden attended.
The New Zealand Transport Agency advised tonight that part of State Highway 6 is down to one lane and caution is advised.
Police said the Serious Crash Unit has been notified.
