The inner city came alive when "Night of Arts" occupied several venues and corners of the Invercargill CBD to showcase the range and variety of local talents.
From live painting to jazz bands and art installations — there was a bit of everything.
Arts Murihiku chairwoman Becs Amundsen was pleased with the feedback.
"It is very cool, very exciting with a lot of learning.
"I’ve already talked to some people who said the event was great as it brought culture and vibrancy to the city and can’t wait to find the surprises around the city through the night.
"There is colours, music all over."
The wet weather would not dampen spirits, she said.
"We are Southlanders and we all know how to put a jacket and a hat on and to be fair most of the things are indoors or covered.
"It just about travelling around the things but we are used to it."
Among the artists was local graffiti artist Deow who through the night made a panel inspired in an owl.
"This event is called Night of Arts so I’m creating an owl, a ruru sort of flying in the southern lights."
He was pleased to take part in the event.
"We need to have more stuff like this, you know? Art and culture — so that’s cool.
"Yeah, I’m happy to be a part of that. It’s nice to leave another mark [in the city]."
Invercargill resident Jenny Brown said she was pleased as it was something she could do with her children.
"It is good to have a great variety of things to see and do and see people out and about."
