Wet conditions have caused the postponement of the Catlins Woodstock music festival.
Organiser Russell Kirk said this is the first time in 21 years the event had not gone ahead.
"We always said rain, hail or snow, we would never cancel, but we never allowed for the mud and the floods."
A new date for the event could not be finalised until the Dunedin sound technician and the scheduled bands could be brought together again at the same time, Mr Kirk said.
"We've had bookings of all sorts . . . that's why we never wanted to cancel."
Mr Kirk said the wet weather in the Catlins region made holding the event too difficult.
"The paddock is wetter than it has ever been . . .
We can't have over 100 motorhomes on a wet paddock."
The "whole place" was booked out, and all the bands had held that weekend free, he said.
"We've had such a lot of interest . . .
"It's just so hard."
