About 215 pupils from Balclutha Primary School enjoyed a canine treat as the stars of the agility group see-sawed, tunnel-ran, leapt over gates and wove through an obstacle course.
"It’s a last day treat for end of term, and one of the dogs belongs to a teacher assist of ours," deputy principal Heather Willocks said.
"But as well as a novelty, it’s about animal care, and some of our students have never been around dogs and don’t know much about them."
The treat was the idea of dog trainer Allen Booth, who had arrived with five agile dogs, from novice to expert.
"Our dogs are working stock dogs as well as agility competitors," he said.
"We wanted to show how much more potential there is for dogs besides feeding and taking them for walks.
"If you make sure of their basic training in their first nine months they’ll be all right for the next 16 years.
"If there’s a problem dog it’s usually an owner issue and there’s plenty of help and training space available right here in Balclutha."
