Water board appointed

A four-member interim Kakanui water supply committee has been appointed by the Waitaki District Council to provide a liaison to the community.

The committee, approved by the council in its public-excluded session on Tuesday, is Merv McCabe, Allan Robins, Karl Ruddenklau and John Chetwin.

Council chief executive Michael Ross said yesterday they were selected from 12 nominees.

The committee would help with a free flow of information between the community and council. It would also have an input into how to restructure the water supply committee.

Mr Ross said elections for a new committee would probably not take place until after the water supply by-laws had been reviewed.

Meetings would be held at the council's headquarters and may involve the chairman of the assets committee, Cr Alistair Mavor.

The appointment of the interim advisory committee follows the failure at a public meeting last year to elect a new water supply committee.
