Two arsons, three arrests

Police have made three arrests following two arsons within a 48-hour period in Milton earlier this week.

Detective Constable Craig Dinnissen, of Balclutha, said a 30-year-old woman was charged with arson after allegedly setting fire to the Dryden St house she was renting.

The house is owned by Otago Corrections Facility corrections officer Ash Prasad.

The fire on Wednesday caused major smoke damage to most of the house.

The woman appeared in the Balclutha District Court on Thursday and was remanded in custody, Det Const Dinnissen said.

Constable Brian McKinney said two males, a 24-year-old and a 26-year-old, were charged with the unlawful taking of a vehicle and arson after a car was found burnt out on the intersection of Mill and Queen Sts in Milton earlier this week.

The 24-year-old was also charged with driving while forbidden, Const McKinney said.
