Schools around the country and the Clutha district raised funds and their heart rates for "Jumping June", including Rosebank School.

Children, teachers and anybody keen on cardio fitness, particularly with a skipping rope, could join the charity and awareness event to support the Heart Foundation.

Rosebank began its event with the "Jump Jam" song and dance, led by some of the senior pupils, then split into whanau groups and headed out to cycle through four jumping stations set up across the school courts.

Each station had a selection of skipping ropes and targeted activities for skipping and jumping, including hurdles, Hula Hoops, agility ladders, doubles skipping, speed skipping and long rope skipping.

"The students were having a great time skipping and giving it a go. I was impressed with their skills," Rosebank sports co-ordinator Rebecca Craig said.

"I saw plenty of teachers getting into the skipping, too ... It was a fantastic day — the students, teachers and staff had a wonderful time."

When the children finished they returned to their classrooms, where they were each given a skipping rope to keep and a certificate for their participation.

"I was greeted with a lot of ‘thank you Mrs Craig; that was awesome; that was so much fun; now I know how to skip rope’," Mrs Craig said.

"It was very humbling to hear how much they enjoyed the event [and] our school raised over $900."
