A burn-off which got out of control near Lawrence last night has been contained.
The fire began yesterday afternoon near Roughan Rd, south-west of Lawrence towards Tuapeka Flat.
It doubled in size from 10 to 20ha over three hours yesterday evening as crews from across Otago and two helicopters with monsoon bucket battled to contain the fire.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman Andrew Norris said this morning crews managed to contain the fire last night.
The Wakari Voluntary Rural Fire Force remained on scene today, along with staff from City Forests, dampening down hot spots, he said.
