Andrew Haulage Balclutha Senior Men looked like a kids’ team playing South Port Old Boys at O’Rorke Park in Invercargill on Saturday. Clutha were hoping to continue their winning form but schoolboy errors in front of both goals cost them the game, going down 3-2.

Old Boys played with pace and skill out wide and their old heads in the middle kept their structure and prevented Clutha from getting anything flowing.

The Dunce of the Day ugly jersey travelled with the team and it seemed like the whole team was competing to win it.

Old Boy Danny Rosel hit a lovely skidding shot along the ground from about 40m out and the Clutha keeper dove over the top of it. Not long after that a Clutha striker hit one into orbit from 10 yards out with just the keeper to beat.

Substitutions have been an issue for the whole season, probably because the team is not used to having any, and the ones made did not appear to help the flow of the game.

Balclutha had slightly more possession but did not seem to be able to string more than a handful of passes together moving up the field, and Old Boys hit them again and again on the counter-attack. It will be back to the drawing board for the Clutha Boys and they will need to work on their composure on the ball.

Man of the Match, winner of the juice box skull-off and Dunce of the Day all went to substitute winger Daniel Morris, for getting and missing easy goals.
