A Balclutha man took vigilante action by throwing dirt on and puncturing three tyres of a car parked over his driveway.
At 6pm on May 11, Wayne David Anderson, 46, was heading out the door on his way to work when he spotted a car parked over his driveway, the Dunedin District Court heard yesterday.
"He tried to call the council. He yelled out down the street trying to find the owner," counsel Libby Hadlow said.
He threw screws on the ground, puncturing three tyres.
Anderson also hit the vehicle, moderately denting one panel.
Judge David Robinson said the man’s excuse was "unbelievable".
"I can’t understand a reaction of this magnitude. Being late for work simply does not explain or excuse what you did."
"It was a very unfortunate situation and he had a very extreme reaction to it. He knows that," Ms Hadlow said.
"He has been very remorseful throughout the entire situation."
When questioned by police, the man immediately offered to pay for the tyres and came to court prepared, offering up $3558 reparation.
Anderson was sentenced to nine months’ supervision and ordered to pay the reparation along with $500 extra for emotional harm.
