Pandora’s Op Shop has raised $100,000 for the community over the past nine years.
Rev Pauline Geddes took up the reins at the store 18 months ago.
Rev Geddes said while the shop was located on the church grounds — at the St Philip and All Saints Church — the proceeds went to the community.
Some of the local organisations that had received funding from the store were Ranui Kindergarten, Oceanview Heights School and the Westpac Chopper Appeal.
She said vouchers were also provided to former refugee families settling in the area.
While the op shop was a veritable Pandora’s box full of treasures, she said there were still many in the community who did not know the shop was there.
Often people wandered in for the first time despite living nearby for years.
The other thing the store had to contend with was a shortage of volunteers.
Francie Spavin had stepped in to cover at the shop while there was a shortage.
Mrs Spavin was the church treasurer and said she had noticed that takings had gone up in the past 18 months, which she put down to word-of-mouth.
