Dairy farmers struggling with tight cashflows caused by low milk prices this season can leave their stresses at the door of the Glenavy Hall on Saturday night.
The Glenavy Young Farmers Club is holding a ''Low Payout'' themed dress-up party to mark Fonterra's farmgate milk price drop to $4.40 per kilogram of milk solids for the 2014-15 season.
Partygoers are encouraged to find a costume costing less than $4.40.
Glenavy Young Farmers Club member Ross McCulloch said it would be a good opportunity for farmers to get away from the farm and leave any stresses at the door.
''We felt sorry for the dairy cockies - you've got to have a giggle in the bad times,'' Mr McCulloch said.
''It's just a way to look on the brighter side - it's not all bad.''
For those new to the area, it would also be a chance to meet new people.
It is the third year the Glenavy Young Farmers Club has held a party at the hall. In 2013, it organised its first dress-up party, in a bid to boost its membership. The event has been well supported by the community since.
Money raised goes back to the community.
The dances are usually well supported by other Young Farmers clubs, with some visitors coming from as far away as Waimakariri and Dunsandel.
The Glenavy club has about 23 members and women outnumber men among its ranks.
''We're always looking for new members ... you don't have to be a farmer to be in it. We've got teachers and field reps, bank managers - it's just same-age, like-minded people,'' he said.
The Glenavy Hall's doors will open at 7pm on Saturday, people attending must be over 18 and tickets are $25, available at the Glenavy Store or at the door.
