The Waimate Creative Fibre members met for their June meeting at the Waimate Town & Country Club.
For this get-together they were entertained by Timaru Creative Fibre member Gwenneth Loomes, who came down for the morning to demonstrate felt needling.
Apart from some sickness there was a good turnout, and members were keen to learn this very "in" craft.
Gwenneth brought items of flat needle felting she had completed, such as butterflies, flowers and name badges.
She explained the different barbed needles to be used along with the foam pads to stab into when felting, along with different wool that can be used.
Gwenneth had books to inspire members to continue felting long term.
Some members were already planning their next needle felting project they were scheming to make at home.
A discussion was held regarding the next Waimate A&P Show, with discussion on the group’s involvement.
A few ideas were shared around and it was decided one of the members should attend the next A&P meeting to help with planning our participation.
The next meeting will be held on July 11 at 10am at the Waimate Town & Country Club.
Members will be making knotted bags or cowls.
