A recent workshop run by the Headlight Trust found 66% of participants didn’t know where to get help if they’re struggling with their wellbeing.
"Many migrants are unaware of the free assistance available to them," project lead Anna Wang says.
"Even when they know about certain organisations, language barriers often prevent them from expressing their feelings effectively in English."
Headlight’s now developed a digital programme to help migrant communities.
It enables information to be delivered to small groups by cultural leaders and facilitators in their native language and with translated resources.
The Headlight team’s working with migrant communities in the coming months to trial the digital workshop.
The project’s being funded from a Lottery community grant, Community Trust South, Foodstuffs South Island and community donations.
