The Wakatipu High School kapa haka group perform at the unveiling of a waharoa, or entranceway, on the opening day of the Remarkables Market in Frankton on Saturday.

The waharoa, carved by Ngai Tahu artist in residence Steve Solomon, was blessed by kaumatua Michael Skerrett during the ceremony, which also included a powhiri and waiata.

The market’s 11th summer season started with 70 stallholders.

Remarkables Park Ltd director Alastair Porter said the market’s opening had been brought forward by three weeks to support stallholders and Wakatipu residents.
