A Queenstown teacher is preparing to share her experiences tackling – and winning – a mammoth adventure race with a home audience.
Six-time GODZone competitor, and Shotover Primary School teacher, Emily Forne, 35, won her first title this year, in a team alongside husband and fellow veteran competitor Chris Forne.
It was their first time doing a longer adventure race together, and it paid off.
She describes her talk as a “warm-up” to the main event, a presentation by famed mountaineer Mark Inglis.
In 2004 Inglis became the first double amputee to summit an 8000-metre peak when he climbed Cho Oyu, the sixth-highest mountain in the world.
Forne says her talk, which she’ll present with Chris, will focus on sharing their experience with GODZone and how they worked together as a team, something she says can be applied to other sporting and general endeavours as well.
“It’s looking at the ins and outs of doing it and coming out on top.”
The event will be held next Thursday, 7pm, at Shotover Primary School. Tickets $35.
