A Christchurch man has been charged with assault after punching a 25-year-old Queenstown man in Camp St on Saturday night.
Queenstown police area response manager Senior Sergeant Glenn Wilkinson said the alleged assault occurred after the victim walked past the 21-year-old offender and a group of associates about 11pm.
After a "minor interaction" between the pair, the offender punched the victim in the side of the face, knocking his hat off, Snr Sgt Wilkinson said.
Police found the offender in a nearby bar a short time later and arrested him.
He would appear in the Christchurch District Court at a later date.
