Svea Lechmann, of Queenstown, was all smiles as she let her hair down for some star treatment by Australian hairdresser Jules Tognini (left) at Iron and Ivy Hair and Beauty salon in Queenstown yesterday.

Mr Tognini, the son of salon stylist and owner Benni Tognini, is what is known in the hairdressing industry as a hair educator.

The former Australian 2018 hairdresser of the year and the Australian (hair) educator of the year in 2018 and 2019 yesterday, held a one-day workshop for about a dozen hairdressers hailing from different parts of Otago.

Mr Tognini believes his education programme is successful because it focuses on being unique, rather than being a stickler for technique.

"We try to bring out the individual out in everyone."
